🎯 How to Prepare & Make the Most of Your Self-Tape Session
To walk away with a self-tape you’re truly happy with, preparation is key — not just with your lines, but with your mindset.
Here’s how to set yourself up for success:

-
Know your lines – Be off-book so you can focus on the performance, not the words.
-
Understand the scene – Know who you are, what you want, and the emotional beats of the moment.
-
Research the tone – Consider the genre and the style of performance (e.g., grounded drama vs. heightened comedy).
-
Make clear choices – come in with strong intentions and a point of view for your character.
-
Practice on camera – Rehearse with your phone or laptop to get comfortable with framing and stillness.
-
Dress simply & appropriately – Choose clothing that suggests the character without being a costume.
-
Warm up your voice and body – Arrive ready to drop in physically and emotionally.
-
Be open to direction – The second take is about growth; flexibility will help you elevate your performance.
-
Don’t chase perfection – Aim for connection, truth, and presence — not robotic polish.
-
Arrive early & stay engaged – Use the time to observe others, reflect, and stay in the creative zone.
